In a strange turn of events, the year 2020 lead to many of us becoming stay at home dog parents. When all the dog parents were heading back to working in their offices, I realized how many people deal with dog anxiety. I have two dogs, both raised the same, one dog is super playful, loves everyone and can entertain herself for hours. The other has claimed me as his favorite person causing anxiety when I leave. The forth of July is his worst nightmare with so many loud noises. Between the separation anxiety and Tiberius’ innate jumpiness, anxiety has been a topic we have spent a lot of time and honestly, money learning about. Having said that, we have tried all of the tools and finally found our most helpful favorites.
CBD Peanut Butter for Dog Anxiety
This is by far our favorite dog anxiety reducer. CBD has several benefits for dogs including aiding in dog anxiety. However, we have tried so many CBD dog treats with no success. Tiberius would sniff each of them and then turn his nose up, refusing to even taste them. Then we found Petals & Tails CBD Peanut Butter. Tiberius is a large breed dog and it only takes a small spoonful and my boy is comfortable while I am away at work. While Petals & Tails is not on the cheap end of the spectrum, the quality is well worth the investment to help with dog anxiety.

Wearable Dog Anxiety Reducer
Over time we tried several options. Starting with a thunder coat. The Thunder Coat is a wrap around jacket. The idea is that it will wrap your dog snug to help them feel safe. The Thunder Coat has a small patch that you can spray with their dog anxiety spray. The ThunderEase is an all natural spray with pet safe essential oils to help keep your dog calm. They also have a plug in option, though we have not tried that one.
Other ways to Reduce Dog Anxiety
Food Puzzles
I have found food puzzles to be an excellent way to tire out both of my dogs. These toys come in all shapes and sizes. Some are balls that the dogs have to roll around, some have flaps that have to be opened and others I freeze for long lasting fun. I tend to stick to a few of the dogs favorite treats or some plain cooked chicken.

Exercise
Exercise is one of the best ways to help dog anxiety. If I have a big day ahead I will try my best to schedule in time for early morning exercise. A walk, time at the dog park or a good run helps keep both of my pups calm. It also starts my day off on the right foot too. Pent up energy is an anxious dog parents worst nightmare. If you can find a way to eliminate that energy before their anxiety can kick in it will save so many head aches.
Weather your dog’s anxiety shows up from separation, storms or maybe even from past experiences, I hope our efforts and experience can offer you some help. Keep working with your pup and you will find the best solution for your family.
